The Bristol Group for Water Research at UWE, Bristol (BGWR) focuses on making linkages between water sector practitioners and theorists, between the growing water NGO community and academics, between local communities at risk of flood and/or drought and interdisciplinary academic specialists.

The BGWR is currently working the following research initiatives:

  • water demand management: towards sustainable policy
  • water-related ecosystems services and PES
  • implementation of the Water Framework Directive
  • the 2014 Water Act in the UK

UWE offers: foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in water management, countryside conservation and management and civil engineering,  and  short  courses  in  water  sector  regulation,  water quality management, and local government responsibilities, etc.  More than a dozen colleagues from across the university have combined to create the BGWR as a truly interdisciplinary research, teaching and advocacy team.  The BGWR is affiliated with UWE Bristol’s Institute for Sustainability, Health and Environment which aims to influence and increase integration in relation to policy creation and delivery at national and international levels. Staff in ISHE has received funding from the EPSRC, ESRC, NERC, the Soil Association,government  departments  in  the  UK  and  abroad,  the  EU, the Environment Agency and BIG Lottery funding.
